J.D. Luhning graduated with Honors from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, with a degree in Political Science/Communications in 1999. J.D. then attended the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law and obtained his juris doctorate in 2002.

J.D. was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2002 and the Illinois Bar in 2005. He is also admitted to practice in the Federal Court for the Eastern District of Missouri.

J.D. is a member of The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the American Bar Association. He serves as The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis' Young Lawyers Division Delegate to the American Bar Association and is also on the Executive Committee for The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis-Young Lawyers Division.

J.D. was recently given an Award of Merit as an Outstanding Young Lawyer by The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and serves as a Board Member for Employment Connection, a local not for profit that helps train and find employment for ex-offenders, welfare mothers and veterans who face numerous obstacles to employment.
